Our client is looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Accountant to join their team in Randburg.
The ideal candidate will have a strong combination of corporate/commercial accounting experience and prior experience within an accounting or audit firm will be an advantage . This is a hands-on role requiring someone who is technically strong, commercially minded, highly accurate and comfortable taking ownership of the full accounting function.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation and maintenance of accurate financial records, monthly management accounts, reconciliations, statutory compliance, audit support and financial reporting.
Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Accounting
- Manage the full accounting function from source transactions through to trial balance.
- Prepare and process monthly journals, accruals, provisions, prepayments and depreciation.
- Perform monthly bank, balance sheet, debtors and creditors reconciliations.
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger.
- Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reporting packs.
- Analyse income, expenses, margins and financial performance.
- Investigate variances and discrepancies and implement corrective action.
- Maintain the fixed asset register and related accounting records.
Month-End & Year-End
- Manage the month-end and year-end close process.
- Prepare detailed balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Ensure financial information is accurate, complete and submitted within deadlines.
- Prepare annual financial statements and audit schedules.
- Liaise with external auditors and respond to audit queries.
Tax & Statutory Compliance
- Assist with the preparation and submission of VAT, PAYE and income tax-related requirements.
- Ensure compliance with relevant South African tax legislation and accounting standards.
- Maintain accurate supporting documentation for SARS and other statutory requirements.
- Assist with statutory and regulatory reporting where required.
Corporate / Commercial Finance
- Work closely with operational and management teams to understand financial performance.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow management.
- Provide meaningful financial analysis and commentary to management.
- Monitor actual performance against budgets and investigate material variances.
- Identify opportunities for improved financial controls, cost management and processes.
Accounting / Audit Firm Experience
- Apply experience gained from an accounting or audit firm to ensure strong technical accounting standards.
- Review financial information and identify accounting discrepancies or risks.
- Prepare and maintain audit-ready working papers and supporting schedules.
- Deal professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
- Bring a strong understanding of financial statements, reconciliations, tax and accounting principles
Desired Experience & Qualification
- BCom Accounting, BCom Financial Accounting, National Diploma in Accounting, or equivalent relevant qualification.
- 3–5 years' relevant accounting experience , preferably including post-articles experience.
- Previous experience in an accounting/audit firm is an advantage.
- Previous corporate/commercial accounting experience is essential.
- Strong understanding of South African accounting and tax requirements.
- Good working knowledge of IFRS.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP.
- Experience with an ERP/accounting system such as Sage, Pastel, Xero, SAP or similar .
- Experience with management accounts, reconciliations and year-end audit processes.

R20000-R25000 ctc
