A well-established packaging company based in the Helderberg area is looking for a hands-on Accountant to take responsibility for the full finance function , while gaining valuable exposure to the manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Full Financial Accounting Function

• Manage the accounting function from transactional processing through to trial balance

• Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports

• Prepare and post monthly journals, accruals and provisions

• Perform balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations

• Manage bank and cashbook reconciliations

• Oversee debtors and creditors

• Manage fixed assets and maintain the asset register

• Handle intercompany transactions and reconciliations

• Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules

Management Accounting & Reporting

• Prepare monthly management reports and financial packs

• Perform budget vs actual variance analysis

• Assist with annual budgets and forecasting

• Provide financial analysis and insights to management

• Monitor business performance, costs and margins

• Assist management with financial decision-making

Cost & Management Accounting

• Analyse manufacturing and production costs

• Assist with product costing and margin analysis

• Monitor raw material, labour and overhead costs

• Investigate production variances

• Assist with inventory accounting and stock reconciliations

• Provide financial support to production and operational teams

Tax, Audit & Compliance

• Prepare VAT and statutory submissions

• Assist with income tax and other tax-related requirements

• Prepare audit files and supporting schedules

• Liaise with external auditors during year-end

• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies

Controls & Process Improvement

• Maintain effective financial controls

• Review finance processes and identify areas for improvement

• Ensure accurate and timely financial information

• Assist with implementing and improving accounting processes and procedures

Requirements

• BCom Accounting / BCom Finance

• Completed SAICA articles

• Minimum 1 year post-articles experience

• Strong financial accounting and management accounting knowledge

• Manufacturing, packaging or FMCG experience would be advantageous

• Good Excel skills

• Knowledge of accounting systems/ERP

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• High attention to detail

• Ability to work independently and take ownership

• Commercially minded and hands-on approach
