My client based in Sandton is looking for an Accountant to join their team
Duties & Responsibilities
Roles and Responsibilities
As the Accountant for our mining and exports operations, you will be responsible for the end-to-end financial management of the business, ensuring full compliance, accuracy, and transparency across all financial functions. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Financial Reporting & Compliance : Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS. Ensure compliance with SARS, the Companies Act, SARB, and mining/export regulations. Coordinate internal and external audits.
- Costing, Budgeting & Forecasting : Monitor operational costs related to mining, logistics, and exports. Assist with budgeting, rolling forecasts, and variance analysis to support strategic decision-making and cost control.
- Inventory & Fixed Asset Management : Oversee inventory reconciliations (weekly and monthly) in collaboration with logistics. Ensure accuracy of warehouse stock reports, GRNs, packing lists, and inventory journals. Manage fixed asset registrations and reconciliations.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable : Review and approve supplier invoices and bills in Xero, ensuring alignment with contracts, GRNs, tonnages, pricing, and VAT regulations. Oversee customer invoicing for shipments, ensuring all documentation is complete and compliant.
- Export Finance & Shipment Reporting : Manage all export-related financial documentation (e.g. Bills of Lading, Certificates of Origin/Weight/Quality, SAD500s). Maintain the shipments report, ensuring all associated costs are captured and aligned with contract terms.
- VAT & Statutory Submissions : Reconcile VAT201 reports monthly, ensuring all invoices are correctly categorised and supported. Ensure timely and accurate submissions to SARS, UIF, and other authorities.
- ERP, Controls & Systems : Maintain robust financial controls and contribute to ERP implementation (planned for October 2025). Oversee financial SOPs, tracking reports, and automation of manual reconciliations.
- Stakeholder Engagement : Work closely with logistics, procurement, and operations to ensure cross-functional alignment on inventory, shipments, and financial performance. Liaise with suppliers to verify recons and support billing accuracy.
- Loss Management & Stock Reporting : Monitor and report on stockpile losses per shipment, ensuring variances are within budgeted thresholds. Investigate discrepancies across departments and document outcomes.
• Balance Sheet & Month-End Close : Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, validate inventory and prepayment movements, and ensure accurate reporting and supporting documentation is maintained for all journals. Roles and Responsibilities
