About the Role
An experienced Accountant is required to oversee core accounting functions, ensure financial accuracy and compliance, support month-end and year-end reporting processes, and assist in maintaining strong internal controls. The successful candidate will play a key role in financial reporting, reconciliations, audit preparation, and the review of junior finance staff work.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage and review general ledger transactions, journals, and reconciliations.
- Prepare month-end journals, accruals, prepayments, depreciation, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Review supplier reconciliations, payment packs, and creditor controls.
- Support debtor management and customer account reconciliations.
- Prepare VAT reconciliations and SARS supporting schedules.
- Maintain fixed asset registers and oversee asset controls.
- Assist with cash flow reporting, budgeting, and management reporting.
- Prepare audit schedules and support annual audit processes.
- Review and support the work of the Assistant Accountant.
- Drive process improvements and strengthen financial controls.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- BCom Degree, Diploma, or relevant Accounting qualification.
- 5 – 8 years' accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of VAT, SARS requirements, month-end processing, and reconciliations.
- Experience with Sage Evolution or a similar ERP/accounting system.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Experience in an import, distribution, manufacturing, or regulated environment will be advantageous.
