Accountant – Finance One of our clients, a leading organisation based in Menlo Park, Pretoria, Gauteng , is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to join its Finance Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the financial integrity of the organisation through accurate accounting, statutory compliance, financial reporting, budgeting support and effective financial controls. The role will report to the Financial Accountant and will work closely with internal stakeholders, auditors, SARS and relevant regulatory authorities. Duties & Responsibilities

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Commerce .
  • Completed internship or minimum 1 year's experience in financial reporting and management systems.
  • Experience with loan accounting and loan portfolio accounting .
  • Experience dealing with external auditors .
  • Knowledge of South African tax legislation .
  • Knowledge of the Companies Act .
  • Knowledge of the National Credit Act and NCR compliance requirements .
  • Experience with budgeting and forecasting .
  • Experience with cash flow management .
  • Knowledge of internal financial controls .
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint .
  • Experience using Pastel .
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Strong communication, planning and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and as part of a team.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality and ethical conduct.

Roles and Responsibilities

Financial Reporting

  • Produce accurate management accounts and variance analysis.
  • Support external audits and the preparation of annual financial statements.
  • Provide accurate financial information to support management decision-making.

General Ledger & Month-End

  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure accounting records are accurate and up to date.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register where applicable.
  • Process month-end and year-end closing procedures.
  • Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies.

Accounts Receivable & Loan Portfolio Accounting

  • Monitor and process accounting for loan advances, repayments and collections.
  • Ensure accurate recognition of interest income, fees and impairment provisions.
  • Reconcile loan management systems to the general ledger.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to the loan portfolio.

Tax & Regulatory Compliance

  • Assist with regulatory submissions where required.
  • Liaise with external auditors, SARS and relevant regulatory authorities.
  • Prepare VAT returns.
  • Assist with provisional tax submissions.
  • Ensure PAYE, UIF and SDL reconciliations are completed accurately.
  • Support tax audits and respond to SARS queries.

Cash Flow & Banking

  • Monitor liquidity requirements.
  • Process bank account transactions.
  • Reconcile bank accounts.
  • Assist with cash flow management and forecasting.
  • Ensure banking transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Support management with financial analysis and variance reporting.
  • Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts.

Internal Controls & Risk Management

  • Maintain effective financial controls.
  • Recommend improvements to accounting processes and procedures.
  • Ensure appropriate segregation of duties is maintained.
  • Identify potential financial risks and support the implementation of appropriate controls.

Audit & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Assist with internal and external audit processes.
  • Liaise with auditors and provide supporting financial documentation.
  • Respond to queries from SARS and relevant regulatory authorities.
  • Ensure financial records and supporting documentation are accurate and readily available for review.

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure accounting activities comply with applicable South African tax legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with the Companies Act, National Credit Act and NCR requirements .
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial and organisational information.
  • Promote high standards of integrity, ethical conduct and accountability.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and financial controls.
  • Contribute to improved efficiency and accuracy within the Finance function.
  • Apply initiative and innovative thinking when addressing financial and accounting challenges.
  • Support a results-oriented and collaborative Finance environment.
