The Waitrose Foundation (SA), with their office situated in Stellenbosch, is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to take responsibility for the accurate and effective administration of the organisation's financial and accounting activities. The successful candidate will play an important role in financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, statutory compliance, cash-flow management and financial controls, while ensuring that organisational and project funds are accurately accounted for and reported.
The ideal candidate is a structured, analytical and solutions-focused finance professional with a high level of numerical accuracy, strong attention to detail and the ability to effectively manage multiple financial, payroll, compliance and reporting deadlines.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities include: * Manage payroll administration *Ensure compliance with applicable statutory requirements *Coordinate the annual budgeting process and regularly monitor expenditure against approved budgets *Prepare accurate and timely management accounts and quarterly financial reports for management, Board and governance structures *Manage financial administration relating to funding allocations for partner farms and exporters, including calculations, records, reconciliations and reporting *Oversee project payments and coordinate cross-border and foreign-currency transactions *Oversee debtor administration *Maintain sound financial controls and accurate financial records *Coordinate the annual external audit and liaise with external auditors.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Essential Requirements
- Degree in Financial Management or Accounting;
- 3–5 years' experience in a similar accounting position;
- Excellent planning, organisational and deadline-management skills;
- Ability to manage multiple financial and compliance cycles simultaneously;
- Proficiency in Xero and SimplePay, or similar accounting, payroll and leave-management systems.
