Accountant

Position Summary

Our client, a growing FMCG company based in Cosmo City , is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to join their Finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the company's financial records, ensuring compliance with South African tax legislation, preparing financial reports, and overseeing all statutory submissions to SARS .

The ideal candidate will have strong accounting knowledge, excellent analytical skills, and previous experience working within a fast-paced FMCG or manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management

• Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports.

• Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate financial records.

• Perform month-end and year-end closing activities.

• Prepare journals, reconciliations, and financial schedules.

• Monitor cash flow and assist with budgeting and forecasting.

Tax & Statutory Compliance

• Prepare and submit VAT201 , EMP201 , EMP501 , and other SARS statutory returns.

• Ensure compliance with SARS regulations and South African tax legislation.

• Manage PAYE, UIF, SDL, and other payroll-related statutory submissions.

• Liaise with SARS regarding audits, queries, and compliance matters.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

• Oversee supplier and customer reconciliations.

• Ensure timely processing of payments and collections.

• Monitor outstanding accounts and assist with credit control.

Payroll Support

• Review payroll information before processing.

• Reconcile payroll journals and statutory deductions.

• Work closely with HR regarding payroll-related matters.

Financial Reporting

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

• Assist with annual audits and provide supporting documentation.

• Analyse financial performance and provide recommendations to management.

Internal Controls

• Ensure compliance with company policies and financial procedures.

• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and internal controls.

• Maintain confidentiality of financial information.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of South African tax legislation.

• Experience with VAT, PAYE, EMP201, EMP501, UIF, SDL , and SARS eFiling.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

• Experience using accounting software such as Xero, Sage, Pastel, QuickBooks, or Syspro .

• Strong understanding of financial reporting standards.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent.

• SAIPA or SAICA articles will be advantageous.

• Professional registration (SAIPA, CIMA, ACCA, or similar) will be an added advantage.

Experience

• 3–5 years' experience as an Accountant.

• Previous experience in the FMCG, manufacturing, distribution, or retail sector is highly preferred.

• Proven experience with SARS submissions and statutory compliance.

• Experience preparing management accounts and financial statements.

Salary: R35,000 – R45,000 CTC per month
