ACCOUNTANT
Position Overview
my client is a head office for a Fuel group with petrol stations nationwide
They are seeking a highly organised, detail-oriented and experienced qualified Accountant to manage the company’s day-to-day accounting functions and financial administration. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, managing reconciliations and supporting the overall financial operations of the business.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting
- Manage and maintain accurate accounting records and financial transactions.
- Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports.
- Perform monthly balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations.
- Prepare and process journal entries and adjustments.
- Monitor income, expenses, cash flow and company expenditure.
- Assist with month-end and year-end financial close processes.
- Ensure financial information is accurate, complete and up to date.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Process supplier invoices and payments.
- Manage customer invoicing and accounts receivable.
- Allocate and reconcile customer and supplier accounts.
- Follow up on outstanding customer accounts and overdue payments.
- Resolve account queries with customers and suppliers.
- Ensure creditors and debtors are accurately maintained.
Banking & Reconciliations
- Perform daily/monthly bank reconciliations.
- Monitor banking transactions and cash movements.
- Prepare payment schedules and ensure payments are processed accurately.
- Reconcile credit cards and other financial accounts.
Payroll & Statutory Requirements
- Assist with payroll processing and payroll reconciliations where required.
- Prepare and submit statutory returns and payments, including VAT, PAYE, UIF and other applicable requirements .
- Maintain accurate supporting documentation for statutory submissions.
- Liaise with SARS, auditors and other relevant parties when required.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare financial reports and analysis for management.
- Assist with budgets, forecasts and cash-flow projections.
- Identify discrepancies, variances and potential financial risks.
- Ensure compliance with company financial policies, accounting standards and applicable legislation.
- Assist with internal and external audits.
- Maintain proper financial filing and supporting documentation.
Minimum Requirements
- Relevant Accounting/Finance qualification .min BCOM Degree
- 3–5 years' experience in an accounting role, preferably within a commercial environment.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial processes.
- Experience with VAT, PAYE and SARS requirements .
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- Strong reconciliation and analytical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work independently.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.

Advantageous
- Experience with Pastel/Sage, Xero, QuickBooks or similar accounting systems .
- Experience in preparing management accounts.
- Experience dealing directly with SARS.
- Previous audit experience.
- Advanced Excel skills
- Experience within a retail head office environment an added bonus
