Accountant

Introduction

Our client is looking for a well-rounded, detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join our finance team and growing brand.

Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, this role will act as the first level of review within the finance team and will play an important role in ensuring the accuracy, completeness and integrity of the Group’s financial information.

The successful candidate will be hands-on, commercially minded and comfortable working across the full finance function, while also supporting the broader finance team.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Review and support members of the finance team, providing guidance and assisting with the accuracy and quality of their work.

• Take ownership of key accounting and month-end responsibilities and ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial information.

• Review the first draft of monthly management accounts before final review and sign-off by the Finance Manager.

• Ensure the accuracy and completeness of the trial balance, general ledger processing and balance sheet reconciliations.

• Review key balance sheet accounts and ensure reconciling items are investigated and resolved timeously.

• Assist with the annual audit process and preparation of supporting schedules and information.

• Prepare and review VAT calculations and submissions.

• Review payment batches and supporting documentation prior to approval.

• Support and improve financial controls, processes and procedures across the business.

• Be actively involved in the stock and inventory systems, including reconciliations, controls, exception reporting and ongoing system improvements.

• Review revenue reconciliations, debtor balances and revenue-related controls.

• Assist with finance system enhancements, process improvements and automation initiatives.

• Support the Finance Manager with budgeting, reporting and other ad hoc financial projects as required.

• Work closely with operational teams to investigate financial variances, resolve queries and improve the quality of financial information.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• BCom Accounting, Finance or similar relevant degree.

• Minimum 3 years' relevant accounting experience, including month-end reporting, balance sheet reconciliations and management accounts.

• Strong understanding of accounting principles, reconciliations and financial controls.

• Experience in a senior accounting role with responsibility for reviewing and supporting junior finance staff.

• Completion of SAICA or SAIPA articles would be advantageous.

• Experience with Xero would be advantageous.

• Experience within the hospitality industry would be beneficial but is not essential.
