Accountant - Durban

Introduction

A well-established professional services firm is seeking an experienced Accountant to join their team in Pinetown, Durban. This role is ideal for a technically strong accounting professional with solid accounting experience who is confident managing a portfolio of clients, preparing financial information, and handling accounting and payroll functions across various industries.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Preparing monthly management accounts

• Preparing annual financial statements

• Maintaining and preparing fixed asset registers

• Preparing VAT workings and submissions

• Processing payroll and preparing EMP201 and EMP501 returns

• Preparing various reconciliations for accounting workpaper files at year-end

• Preparing tax computations for review

• Capturing and processing financial data for monthly accounting purposes

• Applying a thorough understanding of accounting and tax treatment to transactions

• Ensuring accurate completion of tax returns and annual financial statements

• Working with clients across various industries and of varying sizes

• Utilising cloud-based accounting and payroll software to deliver efficient client services

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Relevant accounting qualification or degree

• Previous accounting experience within a professional services or accounting environment

• Experience with preparing management accounts and annual financial statements

• Strong understanding of accounting and tax principles

• Experience with VAT, payroll, EMP201 and EMP501 submissions

• Experience with reconciliations and tax computations

• Strong computer literacy and Excel skills

• Experience with Xero, SimplePay, CaseWare, eFiling and EasyFile will be advantageous

• Experience with Sage Online and Sage Desktop/Pastel will be advantageous

• Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple client requirements

• Strong communication skills and a professional approach to client service

• Completed articles and a relevant degree will be advantageous
