The ATKV is a dynamic and fast‑growing Afrikaans cultural organisation with a vacancy for a professional, analytical, and results‑driven accountant to join the finance department at the ATKV head office in Randburg.
The accountant is responsible for the accurate processing and reconciliation of financial information, execution of month‑end closings, fixed asset management, tax, balance sheet reconciliations, and statutory reporting, as well as maintaining strong internal controls and compliance with applicable accounting standards.
The ATKV follows an employment equity policy.
Duties & Responsibilities
Month‑end and year‑end closings
- Execution of month ‑ end processes and general ledger journals.
- Preparation and processing of provisions, amortisation and other closing journals.
- Reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and investigation of variances.
- Ensuring the integrity of financial data and general ledger accounts.
Creditors, debtors and cash management
- Reconciliation and management of creditor and debtor accounts.
- Review of payments and bank transactions.
- Management of bank, credit card and debit order administration.
- Monitoring of cash flow and related reconciliations.
Fixed assets
- Maintenance of the fixed asset register for accounting and tax purposes.
- Calculation of depreciation and management of capitalisation of projects in progress.
- Coordination of periodic asset counts.
- Evaluation of useful lifespan, residual value and other accounting assumptions.
Tax
- Support with tax compliance and statutory requirements and submissions.
Financial reporting
- Preparation of annual financial statements.
- Support of the annual external audit process.
- Preparation of audit documentation and reconciliations.
- Submission of Statistics South Africa returns.
- Support of budget and financial projection processes.
Internal control, compliance and support
- Ensuring compliance with IFRS, internal policies and financial control measures.
- Identification and addressing of financial risks.
- Continuous improvement of financial processes and systems.
- Assistance with financial queries from operational departments.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- BCom degree in accounting.
- SAIPA qualified.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience as an accountant.
- Good knowledge of IFRS for SMEs.
- Experience with fixed assets, tax, financial statements, audit preparation and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience with an ERP or financial system.
- Knowledge of CaseWare Financial Statements software.
- Good language proficiency and communication skills in Afrikaans and English.
