Ab Initio Developer at Sabenza IT & Recruitment

We are looking for an Ab Initio Developer / Operations Support professional to join a leading South African telecommunications and ICT services provider. In this role you will provide L2/L3 support and development assistance for business-critical batch data integration pipelines within the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) ecosystem. You will administer Ab Initio components, ensure production stability, optimise ETL workflows, maintain metadata lineage and support governance and audit requirements on Linux-based distributed platforms. This is a hands-on operational and support-focused position that directly contributes to the reliability and performance of core data integration processes.

Responsibilities

• Deploy, support, parameterise, migrate and optimise Ab Initio graphs across Development, Test and Production data warehouse environments.

• Assist development teams with ETL graph configuration, migration and runtime issue resolution.

• Configure and maintain Ab Initio platform components including Co>Operating System, Conduct>It Scheduler, EME Repository and Control Center.

• Implement job orchestration strategies using Conduct>It; monitor batch jobs, ETL runtime performance and system health.

• Perform log analysis, incident resolution, root-cause analysis (RCA), restart/recovery handling and problem management to ensure SLA adherence.

• Automate operational tasks using Shell scripting and Terraform; conduct regular system performance monitoring and health checks.

• Maintain metadata and lineage using EME and support data warehouse governance and audit requirements.

• Identify ETL performance bottlenecks, recommend tuning measures and contribute to platform availability through high-availability (HA) and disaster-recovery (DR) strategies.

• Prepare and maintain complete documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for support activities and operational processes.

Requirements • 3–6 years of hands-on experience with Ab Initio ETL development, deployment and operations support.

• Strong proficiency in Ab Initio GDE, Co>Operating System, Conduct>It, EME, Control Center and Continuous Flows.

• Solid Linux/Unix working knowledge with Shell scripting for operational automation and health checks.

• Experience in job scheduling, production batch monitoring, log analysis, incident management, RCA, restart/recovery and SLA adherence.

• Oracle database exposure together with EME metadata/lineage management and support for data warehouse governance.

• Experience with Terraform for infrastructure/automation tasks.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate technical findings into clear operational recommendations.

• Advantageous: Telecom domain knowledge, data warehouse concepts (SCD, dimensional modelling) and clear communication skills.
