We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established manufacturing company in Maitland, Cape Town , for an experienced, hands-on, and results-driven Production Line Manager – 2nd Ops to join their dynamic manufacturing team.
This opportunity is ideally suited to an experienced Production Line Manager with a proven track record in manufacturing leadership, production planning, quality assurance, Lean Manufacturing, people management, continuous improvement, and operational excellence . The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the 2nd Operations Production Line, ensuring production targets, quality standards, and cost objectives are consistently achieved while driving workflow optimisation, reducing waste, maintaining compliance with Health & Safety and Quality standards, developing high-performing teams, and delivering accurate production reporting within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Minimum Requirements, Duties & Responsibilities
Minimum Requirements
- Must be available immediately or at short notice
- Mechanical Engineering Qualification (Essential)
- Qualified Toolmaker , Fitter & Turner , or relevant Trade Qualification (Advantageous)
- Engineering or Production Management qualification will be advantageous
- Minimum 5 years' Production Management experience within a manufacturing environment
- Minimum 5 years' Trade Experience
- Minimum 3 years' People Management experience
- Strong knowledge of production planning, workflow management, quality control, production reporting, and continuous improvement
- Sound knowledge of milling machines, lathe production lines, assembly processes, and heat treatment processes
- Experience with ERP/SAP production systems , works orders, and production documentation
- Good understanding of Lean Manufacturing , 5S , TPM, visual management, and waste reduction principles
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems (ISO 45001 advantageous)
- Good understanding of Occupational Health & Safety requirements
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Excellent leadership, planning, organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Strong technical and analytical thinking ability
- Results-driven with a positive attitude, resilience, adaptability, and a strong work ethic
- Fluent in English and Afrikaans
- Valid South African Driver's Licence

Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the 2nd Operations Production Line to achieve production, quality, efficiency, and cost objectives
- Plan, organise, monitor, and optimise production workflow to ensure production targets are consistently achieved
- Monitor production output, identify bottlenecks, and implement sustainable corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure products are manufactured according to specification, quality standards, and planned production schedules
- Monitor and control production costs, scrap, consumables, productivity, and labour utilisation
- Ensure full compliance with company policies, Health & Safety legislation, Quality Management Systems, and operational procedures
- Ensure machinery, equipment, and operator maintenance activities are effectively managed, including TPM processes
- Supervise, coach, mentor, train, and develop production employees while managing attendance, performance, discipline, and skills development
- Ensure ERP/SAP production systems, works orders, production documentation, and reporting are accurately maintained
- Drive Lean Manufacturing principles, 5S housekeeping standards, visual management, and continuous operational improvements
- Work closely with Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, and other support departments to maximise production performance
- Prepare and submit accurate daily and weekly production reports while ensuring effective production communication and operational handovers
- Foster a positive, accountable, high-performance culture focused on teamwork, safety, quality, and continuous improvement

Package & Remuneration
- Salary: R50,000 CTC per month + 13th Cheque
