Detailed description

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

  • Engage in short-term planning and perform tasks in accordance with set standards and procedures.
  • Assist in performing fault-finding for the motor mechanic environment by applying a set of modified techniques within a defined context.
  • Assist in conducting preventative and corrective maintenance in the motor mechanic environment and/or equipment and determine possible component failure in order to enhance system capability.
  • Assist in testing all repaired work on maintenance services.
  • Interpret work instructions and drawings/diagrams concerning repairs, enhancement maintenance and services on vehicles.
  • Apply statutory principles in order to comply with safety, health and environmental requirements.
  • Assist in performing quality assurance on work done by external service providers for adherence to industry requirements and report on this to the supervisor.
  • Engage positively with clients and other stakeholders, including complaints and compliments.
  • Address any gaps in own performance of tasks and activities against the required standards.
  • Ensure the workshop area is kept clean, respectable and safe for conducting daily tasks.
  • Collect and deliver spares and documentation when required.

Qualifications

Job requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must have

  • a Matric/Grade 12 Certificate is a must to have;
  • a national trade test in motor mechanics;
  • an N3 Mechanical qualification or an equivalent;
  • one to two years' experience in a motor mechanic environment; and
  • a valid driver's license.

Additional requirements are as follows

  • work experience in maintaining motor vehicles;
  • knowledge of motor vehicle maintenance procedures;
  • knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations;
  • knowledge of risk management related to occupational health and safety;
  • knowledge in reading motor vehicle diagrams;
  • problem-solving skills;
  • computer literacy i.e. the Microsoft Office suite; and
  • good communication skills verbal and written.
